It's inevitable -- no sooner do you reach a peak when clouds start to gather. Setting aside anxieties about lightning, the weather makes for some turbulent and romantic images. I imagine these photographs as sets for presentations of Faust or Götterdämmerung with unusually high production values. I picked an order to suggest the fourth movement of Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony: omninous portents, the storm and a return to calm. The 35 mm and 57 mm images were recorded in the Weminuche and Pecos Wilderness Areas over the period 1985-1992.
